Philadelphia is a city that runs together, more times than not, for a cause. This November, Lung Cancer Awareness Month, locals will once again join forces on the quest for a cure.

The Philadelphia Free to Breathe 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Walk takes place Sunday, Nov. 5 at Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park. Last year, thousands of community members, teams and companies throughout the region laced up in the name of doubling lung cancer survival by 2022, raising nearly $268,000 in the process.

This year, Free to Breathe, a national lung cancer research and advocacy organization dedicated to increasing lung cancer survival, once again challenges Philadelphia to get moving and get fundraising!

Gather your squad, form a team (individual runners/walkers are welcome to participate as well) and encourage family and friends to donate. Every dollar will support lifesaving lung cancer research, promote access to clinical trials while building and empowering the lung cancer community.

“By fundraising and joining us on event day, you are bringing hope to those affected by the disease and their families,” says Nicole Phipps Pietras, Free to Breathe senior events manager. “Lung cancer claims more lives each year than breast, colon and prostate cancer combined, yet these three cancers receive more research funding. More treatment options are needed, and the innovative research we’re funding through the fundraising efforts of our community can help ensure everyone diagnosed with the disease has a fighting chance.”

The day will also include kids’ activities and live music. Lung cancer survivors and their loved ones are encouraged to stop by the Survivor Tent. To register and begin fundraising, visit www.freetobreathe.org/philadelphia.
