Broadway Up Close: Chita Rivera/June 3 • Merriam Theater
Two-time Tony® Award winner and Broadway legend Chita Rivera performs at the Merriam Theater on June 3, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. in the final presentation of the 2016-17 Broadway Up Close series presented by the Kimmel Center in association with Mark Cortale Productions. Hosted by Sirius XM Radio Star Seth Rudetsky, Broadway Up Close delivers an evening of song with a heaping side of Broadway dish, welcoming esteemed Broadway stars to perform some of their best-known songs and share “behind-the-scenes” stories in a more intimate cabaret-style setting. Tedeschi Trucks Band/June 8–10 • Merriam Theater
Presented in partnership with BRE Presents, Grammy® Award-winning Tedeschi Trucks Band (TTB), led by husband/wife team virtuoso guitarist Derek Trucks and guitarist-singer Susan Tedeschi, will play a three-night run at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts’ Merriam Theater Thursday, June 8 through Saturday, June 10, 2017. On June 8, they will be supported by soulful Louisiana-based songwriter, Marc Broussard. The weekend nights (6/9 & 6/10) will feature TTB performing two full sets with no openers. More info.
Fresh Air with Terry Gross-Live interview with Seth Meyers/June 9 • Verizon Hall
The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and WHYY will host a special live recording of Fresh Air with Terry Gross on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 8:30 p.m. at the Kimmel Center’s Verizon Hall. Fresh Air’s longtime host will sit down with comedian and namesake host of Late Night with Seth Meyers for an interview that will be broadcast nationally on Fresh Air the following week. The evening serves as a special celebration of Fresh Air’s 30th Anniversary, and will include a question and answer session with the audience. More info.
Here & Now Hip Hop Forum/June 10 • SEI Innovation Studio
The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is proud to announce a partnership with Guggenheim Fellow and PEW Fellowship recipient Raphael Xavier to present Here & Now Hip Hop Forum, a full day of free programming on Saturday, June 10 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. in SEI Innovation Studio. The collaborative day of movement and music includes three dance workshops taught by renowned and progressive hip hop instructors and performers; a panel discussion bringing together scholars, artists, choreographers and organizational leaders to discuss the future of the art form; and an open jam session. Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia: A Night in Havana/June 10 • Perelman Theater
Philadelphia favorite, the Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia (JOP), returns to the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts for their second program of the 2016–17 season titled A Night in Havana. The performance, taking place in the Perelman Theater on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 8:00 p.m., will feature the music of jazz legends, including Dizzy Gillespie in his centennial birth year. Special guests will include trumpeter Jon Faddis and pianist Elio Villafranca. This performance is part of the Kimmel Center Jazz Series, a season-long celebration of Philadelphia’s legendary jazz heritage. More info.

The 2016-17 Broadway Philadelphia season continues with the groundbreaking and Tony Award®-winning Best Musical, Fun Home at the Forrest Theatre June 13–18, 2017. Robert Petkoff (Broadway’s Ragtime, All The Way,Anything Goes) will play Bruce, Susan Moniz (Broadway’s Grease, Chicago’s Marriott Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theater) will play Helen, and Kate Shindle (Broadway’s Legally Blonde, Cabaret, and Miss America 1998) will play Alison. Diana Krall/June 23 • Academy of Music
Grammy® Award-winning jazz pianist and world renowned singer, Diana Krall, returns to the Kimmel Center’s Academy of Music on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. for the first time since 2013. Krall will be performing standards, as well as songs from her highly anticipated new album Turn Up the Quiet, where she collaborated with Tommy LiPuma, the late Grammy®-winning producer. Her latest album combines the Great American Songbook and her jazz roots. More info.
