One Man’s Journey Into the Afterlife- Don’t Miss the World Premiere of Roger Q. Mason’s The Duat

-Brenda Hillegas

What a way to end Philadelphia Theatre Company’s already powerful and thought-provoking season! Obie Award-winning Artistic Director Taibi Magar directs the world premiere of Roger Q. Mason’s The Duat, presented in a theatre in the round setting right on the PTC stage. The Duat follows Cornelius Johnson, a former FBI COINTELPRO (Counterintelligence Program) informant as he finds himself in the Egyptian afterlife.

Philadelphia native, and Barrymore Award nominee, Frank X. gives The Duat his all. From his rough start, his family history, and his time at UCLA in the 1960s during the civil rights movement, Frank X. is dynamic in this 90 minute show as the audience surrounds his non-stop performance that’s told through North African drumming (drummer Barbara Muzikaldunk Duncan), spoken word, movement, and multiple characters.

This incredible story about reflection and our time on earth will leave you wondering if you’ve done enough. Don’t miss this groundbreaking play, you’ll leave a different person.

Tickets, through June 23rd, here.
