Step Mom, Step Mom, Step Mom World Premiere Runs Through February 18th at InterAct Theatre

The world premiere of Step Mom, Step Mom, Step Mom by Jahna Ferron-Smith and directed by Matthew Dickson, is the second show of InterAct’s 23-24 season. The 90-minute fast paced play asks the question- Can an interracial couple easily introduce some kink into their sex life?

Sure, why not? You might respond. But when married couple Kaila (a Black woman) and Louis (a white man) start to wonder if they can and how they can…things get complicated mentally and physically. Jessica Johnson and Scott R. Sheppard play this couple- their chemistry on stage, the way they move around one another effortlessly, the words they speak and their banter all perfectly sum up a loving, long term relationship and how easy it is to fall into a mundane routine. When the idea of spicing things up are brought to the table, the actual execution becomes tough and the two struggle internally with the roles they usually portray and how they would be perceived in new sexual situations.

Rounding out the cast is Donovan Lockett as Tichelle, Kaila’s friend who is also struggling with her own relationship, and Abdul Sesay as Mark who appears mostly as a fantasy. These characters help Kaila and Louis open up and understand the range of kinks and fetishes that can be brought into a relationship for a different sexual approach.

This show powerful, leaves audiences with an open mind, and it’s also pretty funny! You’ll enjoy the message and even the comedy in this play.
