Members of South Philly’s Theater Exile Board Attack Philadelphia Fringe Festival with a New Absurdist Play

1Shotproductions is rehearsing Dissociation, a new play, staged in three performances—Thursday, September 7 at 7:00 PM; Sunday, September 10 at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM—as part of the 2023 Philadelphia Fringe Festival. The performances are at Theatre Exile, 1340 S. 13th Street (13th & Reed), Philadelphia, PA 19147.J. Paul Nicholas directs an all-star cast in Reuben Wade’s Dissociation. Keith Conallen and Robert DaPonte perform a character pried open to reveal an existential struggle. Niya Ebon and Heather Michele Lawler play women who meet and ask the question: are we the same person? Director J. Paul Nicholas says Dissociation, “is at once widely universal and deeply personal. It examines the questions… Who am I? How many aspects of me are there, and which of them is running the show? Is this life real or imagined, and how am I supposed to operate in it?” Playwright Reuben Wade aims for laughter to reign and he says romance snuggles into the folds between dreams and intension.

Mr. Wade created the company, 1ShotProductions, to produce his work and promote the work of contributing artists. In the 2012 Fringe Festival he collaborated with Rare Books Department, Philadelphia Free Library in presentation of a reading of Paint the American Eagle based on Charles Dickens, American Notes. Coincidentally, director and playwright serve on the board of Theater Exile and Mr. Nicholas has performed and directed for the Company in whose performance space this new play will be staged.

Tickets are on sale at the Philadelphia Fringe. Admission is $20. Advance purchase is recommended, as seating for all three performances is limited to just 200. https://phillyfringe.org/events/dissociation/
