Old-school cool returns to Dilworth Park this Friday, April 21 with the opening of the Rothman Orthopaedics Roller Rink! To celebrate, Center City District (CCD) will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:30 a.m., starting with a roller performance from local skate troupe Great on Skates and a hoop dance routine with the Hoop Doc, Allison Hart.
Representatives from CCD, the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute and the City of Philadelphia will provide remarks before a shower of rainbow streamers signifies the official start of the season once the ribbon is cut. The first skate session of the day will begin at 12:15 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to purchase tickets online ahead of time at rothmanrink.ticketsocket.com.
The rink will be open through July 16th. Sundays through Thursdays from 11 a.m.-8:45 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Admission will be $8 for children 10 and younger and $10 for adults. Skate rental is $6. Group rates are available for parties of 10 or more. While online purchases are recommended, in-person sales will be offered onsite based on availability. On Mondays and Tuesdays from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Matinee Skate will offer $5 off of admission to guests of all ages.
The rink’s iconic checkerboard floor will be complemented by a brand-new art overhead installation, designed and fabricated by Philadelphia’s Lucky Dog Studio. The piece will feature rows of multi-colored ribbon that create a fringe effect.
The Air Grille Garden, adjacent to the roller rink, also reopens on Friday, April 21. Food and beverage options are inspired by classic snack bar staples, like fried fish tacos and elote street corn, plus delicious sweet treats from the local Desserts by Sprinkled Sweetness. At the bar, adults 21 and older can enjoy refreshing brews, like Michelob Ultra and Kona Big Wave, along with delicious cocktails made with Haku® Vodka and Tres Generaciones® Tequila.
