Inis Nua Theatre presents the Philadelphia premiere of Hymn by well-known British playwright Lolita Chakrabarti. If you haven’t seen a show at Inis Nua yet (Louis Bluver Theatre at The Theatres at the Drake, 302 S. Hicks Street), make time to catch this one before it ends on April 30th.

Hymn features Philadelphia actors Dwayne Alistair Thomas as Benny and Garrick Vaughan as Gil, each be making their Inis Nua debuts. The two-character play, with no intermission, take audiences through a year in the life of two adult brothers who just recently met for the first time. They fill their days with music (great live performances of soul and pop songs from decades past), stories from their childhoods, and trying to form a brotherly bond they missed out on when they were younger.

Benny worked hard his whole life and wants the best for his wife and kids. Gil and his sisters had a lot handed to them, yet Gil is still searching for ways to shine and make his family proud. Together, the brothers discover the challenges of family relationships and discover what was missing in their lives. Overall, this is such a joyful show to witness, yet there are also tragedies in the plot. You’ll leave the theatre thinking about the people you surround yourself with and the ones you might want to build a stronger relationship with now.
