My lips are NOT sealed…
Everyone needs to head out to Norristown’s Theatre Horizon and experience the fun that awaits you at the professional Philadelphia regional premiere of The Go-Go’s Head Over Heels!
Set to the music of the female rock band, The Go Go’s, you’ll relive hit after hit as their songs play out on stage in a story based upon The Arcadia by Sir Philip Sidney (and adapted by Swarthmore College professor James Magruder). You’ll feel like you’re at some sort of Renaissance themed disco with neon (and some black light action) dripping from every corner… can Scenic Designer Jennifer Hiyama and Costume Designer Rebecca Kanach please be in charge of every show everywhere from now on?
As Arcadia is on the verge of losing its “beat’ – a magical force that keeps the town at peace- the royal family and their staff set out on an adventure to save their kingdom. The cast is made up of cast of local gems like Sydney Banks, Pax Ressler, Aaron Bell, Trey Lyford, Thomas Choinacky, Anna Lieberman, Izzy Sazak, and Lexi Thammavong. It’s clear that they’re having the most fun ever on stage as they sing their hearts out to a story and message that they’re obviously passionate about. Love and acceptance are key to Head Over Heels, and being who you are, loving people for who they are, and smashing down traditions to celebrate an LGBTQ-inclusive world make this a beautiful show to witness. You may never hear “Heaven Is a Place on Earth” again without thinking of the song’s role in Head Over Heels…and I love that for us.
Head Over Heels rocked the Broadway stage from 2018-2019 with RuPaul’s Drag Race‘s Peppermint becoming the first transgender woman to originate a principal role on Broadway. Though the show unfortunately didn’t last long in New York, it’s exciting to see the opportunities it will have in theatres across the US. Theatre Horizon’s version is directed by Rebecca Wright (Other Orbits with Applied Mechanics, R. Eric Thomas’ Backing Track at The Arden Theatre Company) and if you’re familiar with her work, you know how great Head Over Heels is already.
Now through February 19th, you can use code BOGOGOS for two-for-one tickets, so don’t miss out on seeing Head Over Heels at Theatre Horizon. The show runs through March 12th.
