Big Idea Committee, co-created by performers Christine Petrini and Melissa Brun, are known for interactive, live music shows that are perfect for young kids. Just last week, the duo released their first ever full-length self-titled album…and my three-year-old is loving it!
Petrini (songwriter/vocals) and Brun (songwriter/cello/vocals) have created a wonderful collection of kid-friendly songs that parents won’t mind listening to either (thank you for that!). In fact, we can all learn some important messages from their music- “wear your kindness when you wake up” is a line from the jazzy “Kindness Rocks” and come on, we should all be doing that!
The album also includes Big Idea Committee’s award-winning “Spring!” (from the John Lennon Songwriting Contest) and you may have already heard it on WXPN’s Kids Corner. I loved listening to this one and talking about the simplicities of spring- like watching bugs and taking in the beauty of nature- with my toddler.
“Neve Rosamarie” is a sweet song about big adventures and everything we can do or see in the world…”our adventures will take us all around.” We have “adventures” here every day, even if it’s just a walk to the library or taking the bus to run errands. This is a great song to play at the start of a road trip! Or to wake up in the morning! To close out the night, play “Waiting For You” during your bedtime routine.
Personally, the album has been a game changer during this insane week and “Agenda” has been stuck in my head as I go through what we’re doing each day. It’s super catchy! Working from home with a toddler is not easy and I can’t always entertain him while trying to hit a deadline. The songs from Big Idea Committee have been playing through my office bluetooth speakers while I frantically write. Thank you, thank you, thank you for making music that my toddler is listening to and enjoying while he plays independently. Of course, once we hit the final track, “Dancing All the Way”, we take a dance party break together!
If you have a chance to see Big Idea Committee live, do it. Petrini and Brun, along with Karl the Cello, will have you dancing and starting conversations with your little ones. They are passionate about what they do and what they bring to the stage, so please go share that excitement with them! Coming up, you can find Big Idea Committee at Rancocas Woods Farmer’s Market, Sunday, July 10, 2022, 10AM and 12PM in Mt Laurel Township, NJ. It’s non-ticketed and free.
