You know the food is good when you’re still thinking about it almost a full day later.
Last night, I had the opportunity to visit Glu Hospitality’s Figo Ristorante in Northern Liberties, which officially opens on Friday, October 15th. This full service restaurant- with a snazzy bar and gorgeous outdoor patio- offers Italian dishes by Chef Hee “Chino” Chang. You can also get wine and beer of course, but the stand outs are the unique craft cocktails, espresso martinis (flights are available!), Italian soda cocktails (and flights too!) and amazing service!
Next door, Figo Pizzeria will offer whole pies and hoagies- great for take-out/pick-up and delivery! You can also try smaller versions of these pizzas (12 inch size) on Figo Ristorante’s dine in menu. I didn’t try any last night, but you can head over on Friday to celebrate the opening with free slices from 11:30am to 1:30pm. Extra slices and select non-alcoholic drinks will be available for only $2 during this time.
So here’s a recap of what we tried last night!
We ordered a couple items from the antipasti menu. Clockwise from top left- calamari, burrata, zucchini chips, shrimp scampi. Hard to say what I’d recommend. They were all great. But the shrimp included a lemon garlic butter, so that may be the winner.
Before taking a look at the entrees and pastas, we placed another drink order. I got the Corinna, Corinna (pictured below) which is made with Hornitos Reposado, Aperol, cinnamon-agave, and grapefruit. The cinnamon makes this a really great fall drink! My friend got a couple of the Sophia cocktails because they were so good. But we forgot to take a photo. It includes Epsolon Blanco, lavender-peach shrub, lemon, axcha, and espelette pepper.
Picking our entrees was difficult! We asked around and had to try the spicy rigatoni. You should too! The chicken parm was also excellent, like perfectly cooked. Sorry we dug into both dishes before remembering to take a photo, so the shots you see below aren’t the prettiest. But they were the tastiest! I’d probably try the salmon next time and the porterhouse steak for two seems like a great couples dinner idea.
I had to try a soda cocktail before we left! The actual Figo Soda Trays look like a fun addition to a date night and includes four shots of your favorite spirits, fresh citrus, four house syrup flavors, and two large bottes of Pellegrino. As much as I wanted to get creative and mix and match, I stuck with one of the already suggested cocktail combos on the menu. Blueberry, honey, thyme and fresh lemon was just great!
And believe it or not, we had just a bit of room left for dessert. Who can say no to some affogato to close out the night?
This is a great space for whatever type of night out you’re in the mood for. Punch Line, The Fillmore and Brooklyn Bowl are about a ten minute walk away, so pre-show pizzas, apps and cocktails at Figo just makes sense! Romantic date nights are perfected here with incredible entrees and atmosphere. And there’s a “bambinos” menu, so bring the family! Kids can enjoy items like chicken tenders or meatballs.
Everything you order will be made and prepped in house- the sides, pastas, desserts. Bread, of course, will be brought in from Liscio’s! It’s hard not to fill up on the bread basket! Yum! The menu does have vegan options, and several dishes can be made gluten-free so just ask! For vegetarian options- try the seasonal bruschetta, zucchini fries, burrata, angel hair pomodoro, or some of the salads.
“Figo” means cool in Italian and this place totally is. For reservations and full menu details, visit their wesbite here. Opening hours and days are Tuesday to Sunday, from 5:00pm to 10:00pm.
