Welcome to Philly!

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, the nationally recognized brand known for its made-from-scratch dairy and vegan ice creams, recently opened its first ever Pennsylvania store in Philadelphia. Located in Midtown Village at the northeast corner of 13th &  Sansom streets, the scoop shop officially opened to the public on August 18, 2021.

Since starting as an NYC food truck in 2008, Van Leeuwen has expanded into grocery stores across the  country and opened retail scoop shops in New York, California, Texas and now Pennsylvania.

“Opening a Van Leeuwen scoop shop in Philadelphia means so much to us from personal and brand  standpoints,” says Ben Van Leeuwen, co-founder and CEO of Van Leeuwen. “My and my brother Pete’s grandparents were born and raised in Philadelphia, and our co-founder Laura O’Neill still has family here.  With Philadelphia practically being in New York City’s backyard, it feels like a coming home of sorts. Looking at Philadelphia from the business side of things – we’ve always been enamored by the city’s  awesome street scene and the bustling energy along 13th street. Combined with the nationally recognized attention the city’s culinary landscape has garnered in recent years, Philadelphia felt like the perfect next step for us.”

Van Leeuwen offers over 30 ice cream and vegan ice cream flavors made with only quality ingredients, using simple recipes – no junk allowed! Likewise, Van Leeuwen will unveil four special flavors monthly – two dairy and two vegan – available for a limited time in store. Along with its scoops, Van Leeuwen also  offers freshly made waffle cones, signature sundaes, ice cream sandwiches, ice cream bars, milkshakes and a robust coffee program including every caffeine enthusiast’s favorite – the affogato. Exclusive to the new Philadelphia location, Van Leeuwen has partnered with Federal Donuts to create a  one-of-a-kind Philly flavor, Strawberry Lavender Donut. While supplies last, patrons can enjoy a creamy  buttermilk ice cream mixed with pieces of Federal Donuts’ Strawberry Lavender Donut and swirled with  homemade strawberry lavender jam.

Still a few Mac & Cheese pints left in Philly…yes, really!

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream was started out of a yellow scoop truck on the streets of NYC in 2008 by Ben Van  Leeuwen, Pete Van Leeuwen and Laura O’Neill, who were on a mission to make good ice cream from good  ingredients that makes you feel good.

Since 2008, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream has innovated beyond the original dairy recipe and added cashew milk vegan ice cream and oat-milk vegan ice cream to their scoopable lineup. In 2021, they launched their  first line of dairy and vegan ice cream bars.

Van Leeuwen has now opened 24 scoop shops in NYC, TX and LA, has products in grocery stores across  the country and is available to order for nationwide shipping from their website. All the while, continuing  the ultimate goal of making good ice cream that makes you feel good.
