The Philadelphia Environmental Film Festival is going virtual this year, between September 23rd and 27th. Virtual passes go on sale tomorrow, September 4th. Visit https://philaenvirofilmfest.org/ for ticket info and details.
PHEFF has become an Earth Month staple in Philadelphia since it’s founding in 2017, and the virtual festival will continue their goal to use the power of exceptional new global films to entertain, inform and inspire personal action. The year’s line-up showcases 50 new films that touch on powerful, timely and local topics. Highlights include:
- Regional Shorts – locally made short films including BEYOND THE PHILTH, which explores Philadelphia’s vexing trash issue and ORGANIZE FOR OUR LIVES, a youth-made first-hand account of Philadelphia (Roxborough area) students’ strike for climate justice in 2019.
- Environmental Racism Program – with the thought-provoking film MOSSVILLE: WHEN GREAT TREES FALLS.
- Indigenous Perspectives – TRIBES ON THE EDGE by legacy filmmaker and environmentalist Celine Cousteau, granddaughter of renowned conservationist Jacques Cousteau. The film tells Celine’s journey to the Brazilian Amazon at the request of tribal leaders in order to bear witness to the indigenous communities’ fight for survival. Céline S. Cousteau is a socio-environmental advocate. She is known for her work as a documentary film director, producer, explorer, artist, public speaker, brand ambassador and designer, and is a frequent panelist at the United Nations in New York.
- American Adventures featuring RIVER AND THE WALL, Director Ben Masters’ 1,200-mile adventure to document the huge environmental and social impacts of the proposed border wall between Texas and Mexico. This groundbreaking documentary follows five friends on their epic journey to shed light on this controversial project.
