Back by popular demand! The Book of Mormon returns to Philadelphia with a limited engagement from October 1st through 6th at the Academy of Music.

Since opening in 2011, The Book of Mormon is the 14th longest running show in Broadway history. In addition to nine Tony Awards (including Best Musical) and a Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album, The Book of Mormon won five Drama Desk Awards, the NY Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, the Drama League Award for Best Musical, and four Outer Critics Circle Awards including Best Musical.

The Book of Mormon is the hilarious brainchild of South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, along with Robert Lopez, the Tony-winning co-creator of the hit Broadway musical, Avenue Q and Frozen. If you haven’t seen it yet, you need to this week! Tickets here.

Below, cast member Keke Nesbitt, making her national tour debut, talks about her role in the show and why so many audiences can relate to the story.

Q: What was your first musical theatre experience?
A: When I attended a summer camp in 5th grade, and we put on a musical review.

Q: When and why did you decide you wanted to pursue a BFA in theatre?
A: I attended an arts school from elementary to high school and a BFA in musical theatre felt like the natural next step.

Q: Can you tell us a bit about the audition process for this show? How did it feel when you found out that Book of Mormon would be your first national tour?
A: I had a really fun audition process and when I found out I’d be going out on tour, I was beyond thrilled. It felt like it was a great start to a new chapter in life.

Q: For anyone unfamiliar with the musical, who is Nabulungi? What’s her role in the story?
A: Nabulungi is a young Ugandan woman who wants to help everyone in her village and with Elder Price and Elder Cunningham she goes on a windy journey to do so.

Q: Book of Mormon has won numerous Tony Awards and has been playing on Broadway since 2011. Why do you think audiences love it so much?
A: I think people really relate to the heart of the show. This idea of everyone coming together from different backgrounds and experiences is always great to see on stage. The show is relatable, joyous, funny, and truly a great time.

Q: Is there anything you’re looking forward to doing or seeing while in Philadelphia?
A: I went to school two hours from here at Penn State so I’m glad to be back in the area. I’m excited to do a lot of eating, shopping, and sightseeing.
