Internationally acclaimed solo theater performer Chris Davis is premiering a new full-length theatrical solo show, THE 40-YEAR OLD BALLERINO at Amy Novinski Ballet Studio (Unit 615) @ The Bok Building (1901 S. 9th Street) running from September 7 to September 28, 2024. At 40 years old, Chris Davis seizes on ballet class as a way to replace all other addictions – drugs, alcohol, Modern Family, and the toxic tropes of ’90s John Cusack movies. With only a barre for support, Fringe favorite Chris Davis mixes dance and storytelling in a 50-minute comedy that shows you change is always possible, no matter what your age.
“I’m excited to combine my love for ballet with theatrics and story-telling. The language uplifts the ballet and the ballet heightens the text to create a new movement-performance style that captivates and connects with audiences. It was received so well last year at the Bearded Ladies cabaret, it made me want to expand it into a full-length work.”
This also marks the 8th time Chris Davis has collaborated with well-known actor and director MK Tuomanen since his first solo show that premiered in Philadelphia in 2012. His solo shows have toured throughout the United States and Europe. Recently Davis presented his holiday hit One-Man Nutcracker in Kiel, Germany as part of the Thespis Festival.
Written and performed by internationally acclaimed solo artist Chris Davis, and directed by MK Tuomanen, THE 40-YEAR OLD BALLERINO is performed in the Amy Novinski Ballet Studio where Davis takes weekly ballet classes. His dedication to ballet began when he trained while creating his popular holiday show ONE-MAN NUTCRACKER.
