Where does the time go?

What do you do with the time that’s left?

Welsh playwright Abi Morgan’s Lovesong, at Inis Nua Theatre Company through this weekend only, introduces us to a British couple who have moved to the United States as newlyweds in the 1960s and takes us along over their next 40 years together. Maggie (played by Taylor Congdon and Mary Martello) and Billy (Gabe Moses and Kirk Wendell Brown) want to build a life, a home, start a family. Over the next 80 minutes, their relationship unfolds and the characters weave in and out of present day and past memories. They reminisce about times and people they forgot, and their plans for the future. But when their suddenly in their 70s and Maggie doesn’t have much time left, the couple have to quickly come to terms with what’s next for both of them.

The show is very obviously about love and taking that leap with one another. It’s about trust, fear and the heartbreaking reality of how quickly life moves. In the blink of an eye- 80 minutes with no intermission here- we see an entire lifetime pass by. It does feel like minutes sometimes, doesn’t it?

Lovesong, directed by Inis Nua’s artistic director Kathyrn MacMillan, wraps up the theatre’s 20th anniversary season. Limited tickets are still available here.
