Dock Street Brewing Company, Philadelphia’s original craft brewery, woman-owned and family-run since 1985, is ringing in the dog days of summer with the launch of Found Friends IPA, a hazy IPA benefitting the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society, Philadelphia’s largest rescue partner dedicated to saving the city’s homeless and at-risk pets. The beer will be released at Dock Street South with a dog-friendly party on Thursday, May 30 from 5-7pm, including pet portraits, brewery tours, and more. Plus, Dock Street is announcing new dog-friendly Saturdays in the brewery and an all-new Doggie Menu.

On Thursday, May 30 from 5-7pm, beer and dog lovers and their four-legged friends are invited to Dock Street South’s brewhouse (2118 Washington Ave.) for the first taste of this year’s batch of Found Friends IPA, a 6.5% hazy IPA benefitting PAWS. For every four-pack sold, Dock Street will donate one dollar to the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society, which operates adoption centers in Old City and Bustleton. The beer’s label art features portraits of the Dock Street team’s personal pets, including eight family dogs and cats. This is the second batch of the beer – the 2023 release raised over $2,000 for the shelter.

“My wife Lauren Hanak is the Director of Development for PAWS so this felt like a natural partnership,” said Mark Russell, Head Brewer at Dock Street Brewing Company and PAWS Foster Dad. “Lauren and I have fostered over 50 cats and kittens – and adopted a few along the way – so this beer is an homage to all of our furry friends and the important work that PAWS and other local nonprofits are doing.”

During the launch event on May 30, Russell will be giving brewery tours, plus Char & Whiskers will be onsite doing live pet portraits for $35. For those interested in becoming a paw-rent or to add more furry friends to the family, PAWS will be onsite with adoptable dogs and attendees can also learn more about volunteering with the nonprofit or becoming a foster.

Four-legged attendees will also get a first taste of Dock Street’s all-new dog menu, including scrambled eggs ($4), chicken & rice ($6) and a beef patty ($5). The dog menu will be available every Saturday this summer from 12-5pm in the brewery, starting on June 1. Beer-loving dog moms and dads can bring their companions to Dock Street every Saturday this summer for bites and beers at the Brewery Bar. The Dock Street team will have doggie pools for extra hot days.

Dock Street South is located in Point Breeze at 2118 Washington Avenue.  The entrance to the brewery is located on 22nd Street.
