Bundle up the family and make memories at Malvern’s People’s Light theatre where the family-friendly musical, A Christmas Carol, fills the Leonard C. Haas stage with warmth and joy! The Dickens classic runs through December 31st and will be sure to delight audiences with a refreshing take on the story you all know. It’s a beautiful way to spend the holiday season with the ones you love and the perfect time to make memories together.

People’s Light originally this adaptation by Producing Artistic Director Zak Berkman in 2021. This A Christmas Carol incorporates original songs and rearranged 19th-century English carols, by Berkman with additional arrangements by multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Mitch Chakour. A Christmas Carol is directed by Nell Bang-Jensen and features a fantastic ensemble.

Otto F. Haas and Barrymore Award-winning actor Ian Merrill Peakes is Scrooge once again, after portraying the unkind greedy man in the 2021 world premiere production at People’s Light. Barrymore Award-winner Akeem Davis plays Bob Cratchit, his wife, Emily, played by Broadway actor Kennedy Caughell. Broadway actor Jahi Kearse is Jacob Marley, with Anna Faye Lieberman and Maya Jane Lagerstam as the Ghosts of Christmas Past and Present. Robby Clater as Fred, Max Gallagher as Martha, Madeleine Garcia as Belle, and People’s Light Company Members Susan McKey and Tom Teti as Mr. and Mrs. Fezziwig round out the cast. Two rotating groups of youth performers play the show’s children, including Owen Ahlmer and Prince Peay as Tiny Tim.

And don’t forget to make time to visit the gorgeous on site restaurant, The Fern & Fable, originally a 1700s farmhouse. The menu uses fresh, seasonal ingredients with gluten free and vegetarian options too. Here’s a look at what we had.

We shared the eggplant satay, a vegan option made with gochugaru marinade, fried ginger, lemon balm chermoula and kimchi

The cocktails were festive for the holiday season! We each got the traditional glühwein, warmed red wine. Other current options that were tempting included the salted caramel espresso martini, dirty s’more and the apple cider margarita.

Look at the steam coming off the melt-in-your mouth red wine-braised short ribs! And the pappardelle with chicken meatballs was incredible. The pappardelle entree is a limited time menu item, so get over there fast if you want it! The Fern & Fable also has plenty of soup, salad and sandwich options if you want something lighter.

And if you’re wondering what the kids are going to eat- they have a kids menu too. How cute?! I also saw a couple very large mugs of hot cocoa, topped with marshmallows, head to a table with some children. So make sure to get a round for your kids while you enjoy the mulled wine.

And don’t forget some hot cider beignets for dessert!

Reservations are recommended, so click here for more info on the restaurant and to reserve your table! Don’t rush this experience! Be sure to allow plenty of time before or after the show to really enjoy the meal and the atmosphere.
