America’s oldest theatre? Disney’s hit 1991 animated feature comes to life on stage- Beauty and the Beast, which premiere on Broadway in 1994 and closed in 2007 (Broadway’s tenth longest running production), can be seen at the Walnut now through December 31st.

The story follows Belle (perfectly played by Julia Udine- Walnut’s Shrek the Musical, Broadway’s Christine in The Phantom of the Opera) as she stumbles upon the enchanted castle of the Beast (Northeast Philadelphia’s Daniel Wisniewski) and the curse placed upon him and his servants.

All of your favorite songs including “Be Our Guest,” and “Beauty and the Beast” are here, but fans of the animated film will be delighted to hear six more songs, written specifically for the Broadway production by by lyricist Howard Ashman and composer Alan Menken.

Beauty and the Beast became the first animated film nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. The successful Broadway production received 9 Tony Award nominations and played 5,461 performances.

The costumes, set, and songs are gorgeous and will really highlight the holiday season. This is a truly magical show and one not to be missed! Bring your family.

Tickets are available here.
