The Philadelphia Youth Sports Collaborative (PYSC) has worked diligently within the greater Philadelphia area to expand and improve the delivery of youth sports programs and create a safe space for young female athletes. On November 1, 2023, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel, the Philadelphia Youth Sports Collaborative will host the first PYSC Summit: Women in Sports conference. With a platform of great importance, well-known current and former Philadelphia native female sports representatives and several sports organizations will join the Summit as keynote and panelist speakers and sponsors to help aid in PYSC’s cause.
The Philadelphia Youth Sports Collaborative has compiled a panel of distinguished women who will share their experiences and inspire others to fight for equality at this year’s Summit. PYSC hopes the Summit will create an opportunity for women in sports to connect, network, and grow as professionals. The esteemed panel set for this year’s conference includes a variety of female sports professionals such as WNBA Basketball Player for the Washington Mystics, Natasha Cloud, former Little League Star and former Hampton University Softball Player Mo’ne Davis, Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations for the Minnesota Lynx, Cheryl Reeve, Sports Journalist for ESPN, CBS and Marquee Sports Network, Beth Mowins, and Sports Broadcaster/Play-by-Play Announcer for the Philadelphia 76ers, Kate Scott, to name a few.
“We are extremely excited about the growing slate of incredible women at the PYSC Summit. We had hoped to offer a real blend of experiences and stories, and we certainly see that with our current guests. Athletes, coaches, front office, broadcasters, moms…it’s just going to be an awesome day,” said Beth Devine, Executive Director of the Philadelphia Youth Sports Collaborative.
Professional Basketball Player for the Washington Mystics, Natasha Cloud, is set to be the morning keynote speaker, where she will share her experience advocating for racial/social equity and the importance of supporting our youth. Julie Hirshey, Vice President of Community Relations for the Philadelphia Eagles, and Sheila Repeta, Senior Vice President of People at TeamSnap, will take the stage to discuss how sports teams and major organizations drive access and open doors for young girls. Diane Richardson, Head Coach of the Temple Owls Women’s Basketball Team, Mary Nassib, Co-Founder of Non-Profit Sow Good Now, and Gwendolyn Jenkins, President and CEO of The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation, will share their experiences of being involved in the sports industry as business professionals and mothers.
Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations for the Minnesota Lynx, Cheryl Reeve, former Little League Star and former Hampton University Softball Player Mo’ne Davis, and VP of Program Operations and Impact at Philadelphia Youth Basketball, Randy Butler, will be the afternoon speakers during the Power of a Coach panel. Rounding out the Summit, Sports Journalist for ESPN, CBS, and Marquee Sports Network, Beth Mowins, and Sports Broadcaster/Play-by-Play Announcer for the Philadelphia 76ers, Kate Scott, will discuss what life is like calling the big leagues in the Women in Broadcasting Panel.
The Summit would not have been possible without the support and donations from various Philadelphia and sports-centered organizations. NBC10, Telemundo62, and NBC Sports Philadelphia are proud to be this year’s media sponsors and will be providing amazing broadcasters such as Amy Fadool, Taryn Hatcher, and Erin Coleman as moderators during the Summit. PYSC is also grateful to have TeamSnap as its presenting sponsor, with additional support from sponsors: Sixers Youth Foundation, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Philadelphia Eagles, Comcast, and Triad Strategies. With their support, the Philadelphia Youth Sports Collaborative will be able to provide resources and equal access to various programs that benefit young female athletes in Philadelphia.
