In Wildest Dreams, Ivorian-American artist Zeinab Diomande explores Black womanhood through vulnerable self-portraits in her inventive multimedia works. Diomande challenges monolithic stereotypes placed on the Black community by creating limitless figures in her dream-like artworks. She uses high-contrasting colors and vibrant patterns to create celebratory and electric works, creating a  child-like universe for her characters to interact within and shape their reality.

Throughout the works displayed, Diomande responds and honors her childhood and experiences  growing up in Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast). Diomandes’s works Untitled/Gossip and All of a Sudden This  Wormhole Becomes Downhome reflect on the noise and fast pace of growing up in a city like Abidjan. Diomande also challenges stereotypes depicted in mainstream media by creating vulnerable, sensitive, grounded, and non-threatening figures- qualities not often attributed to the Black community. She brings beauty and vibrancy to ordinary experiences while also exploring themes of mental health. Diomande uses subtle shifts in facial expressions and body gestures to showcase a range of emotions her characters experience.

A Pay-As-You-Wish Opening Reception will take place on Friday, September 15, 2023; 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. There will also be a Tour & Talk: Tuesday, September 19, 2023; 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
