Fishtown’s largest street festival and block party is back – and bigger than ever! Fishtown District, with support from Penn Treaty Special Services District, presents Fishtown Fall FestivALE on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 12:00pm to 8:00pm, on Frankford Avenue, from Girard to Palmer. The all day, all ages block party will feature outdoor food and drink, DJs and music, family fun and carnival games, charity celebrity dunk tank, artists and makers, vendors and community groups, and much more.
Look for some of the biggest names in the city to serve street food, made in Fishtown beers and specialty seasonal sips outside under the autumn skies, including Alamodak, Bottle Bar East, Cheu Noodle Bar, Evil Genius Beer Co., Fette Sau, Fiore Fine Foods, Fishtown Pickle Project, Frankford Hall, Frankford Tiki Bar, Front St. Cafe, Heffe Tacos, Interstate Drafthouse, Johnny Brenda’s, La Colombe, LMNO, Philadelphia Brewing Co., Sancho Pistolas, Two Robbers, WM Mulherin’s Sons, Wokworks and many more. Frankford Hall will host a special block party in the festival footprint for Oktoberfest, with authentic oompah music, kids’ crafts, balloon artist, face painters and more. Fishtown Fall FestivALE is free to attend, with food and drink pay as you go. The event is family and fido friendly, with 21 and up to drink (with identification). “Fishtown District has become a top destination for foodies city-wide,” said Fishtown District Director of Operations Kae Anderson. “Fishtown Fall FestivALE is the perfect way to eat your way down Frankford Avenue. It is our biggest line-up of restaurants and bars ever. Come find your favorites, or try something new and different. There’s going to be something for everyone!”
She added, “After the success of last year’s event and moving to fall, we have expanded the footprint to be our largest ever – extending all the way from Girard to Palmer this year.”
Fishtown Fall FestivALE is now in its 10th year. The event started in 2013 during Philly Beer Week as Fishtown FestivALE with a focus on the neighborhood’s award-winning beer scene. In 2022, the festival moved to fall with a new name, new date and a new expanded focus on all things food (and drink). The outdoor end-of-summer food festival will feature over 30 food and drink options, including everything from burgers to brisket, Bavarian pretzels to bratwurst, cheesesteaks to veggie sausage, baked goods to local pickles – and everything in between. The festival is also a celebration of Fishtown’s booming creative arts and retail scene. This annual neighborhood celebration will shine the spotlight on local merchants, plus dozens of artists and makers.
On top of food, drink and shopping, come ready to dance in the streets to music at three different DJ stages programmed by the Frankford Tiki Bar, Johnny Brenda’s and Fishtown District itself. Music will run all day from 12:00pm to 8:00pm, with a line-up that will be announced in mid September. Fabrika will join the line-up this year with entertainers and performers – with more details also to be announced.
Expanded family fun this year will include a new carnival game area in the municipal parking lot at Frankford Avenue and Thompson Street. For a $10 suggested donation per child into the game area, kids can win prizes and play an assortment of games.
Additionally, as part of Frankford Hall Oktoberfest, kids can enjoy face painting, balloon art and kids’ crafts. PlayArts will have pop-up family fun inside Frankford Hall.
Lutheran Settlement House Charity Celebrity Dunk Tank will feature Fishtown “celebs” to ensure everyone has a swimmingly good time, with proceeds to support their important and vital community services.
Frankford Hall will present their annual Oktoberfest during the event, with live oompah music, dancing, Bavarian food, outdoor beer tent and seating and more.
Fishtown Fall FestivALE runs along Frankford Avenue, between Girard Avenue and Palmer Ave, with additional festival activities along Master and Thompson Streets. The festival is just steps from the Girard Stop on the Market-Frankford Line, and just two blocks from The Fillmore and River’s Casino, and is lined with boutiques offering handmade and curated wares, bakeries, cafes, restaurants, and more.
The event is hosted by the Fishtown District, with support from Penn Treaty Special Services District, Hyperion Bank, Visit NJ, Green Mountain Energy, NRG Energy, Renewal by Andersen and T-Mobile.
