Everyone loves a good throwback! It’s probably one of your top playlists on Spotify. What if we told you that you could have a day full of all your favorite throwbacks with everything from live music, retro video games, vintage goods, face painting, free activities and more? Well, Evil Genius Beer Co. is winding back the clocks and bringing you just that on Saturday, September 9th with their 12 year anniversary celebration dubbed “Nostalgia Fest Block Party.”
The all-ages, family friendly, pet friendly event will run from 12:00pm to 6:00pm on the 1700 block of N. Front St in Fishtown, outside of their taproom (1727 N. Front St). In 2011, two best friends, Trevor Hayward and Luke Bowen, decided to ditch their day jobs and go after their two favorite things, making great beer and even better memories, and Evil Genius Beer Co. was born. They quickly became recognized for their witty beer names often citing fan-favorite movie quotes, hilarious memes, and timeless song lyrics. Over the last twelve years, armed with a slogan of “Very Silly Names For Very Serious Beers”, they’ve built Evil Genius Beer Company into a staple in fridges across Philadelphia and can now be found in ten state’s across the Northeast and Midwest.
“We want to evoke a positive memory with every sip of our beer,” said Evil Genius Co-Founder Trevor Hayward. “Whether that’s cracking open a Stacy’s Mom and reminiscing about a time you heard that song or memories of the first time you saw a certain movie while sipping on brews like There’s So Much Room For Activities! or Is Butter A Carb?. Nostalgia has always been at the core of what we do and we wanted to throw a day to celebrate all things throwback for our 12 year anniversary.”
The party kicks off at Noon on Saturday, September 9th and boasts tons of happenings for attendees. Guests can shop around with a series of retro themed vendors like Shibe Vintage Sports who offer unique, vintage-style Philly themed shirts and hats. Marcus and the team at Eternal Trend NJ will be selling high quality, thrifted finds and Zac from Styrofoamdrone will be slinging your favorite retro games and accessories. Amelie’s Bark Shop will be rolling up in their VW van selling fresh homemade dog treats and toys for the dog lovers at the event. New & Wesley Images will also be offering unique, vintage photograph prints. Guests can jam out with The Lenahan Band, a local rock trio, that will be performing 90s hits from 2-5pm. IFacepaint215 will also be offering free face painting during the same time frame. And if you get hungry, the Samboni Boys from Philly’s Finest Sambonis will be slinging sandwiches for the duration of the event. Of course, Evil Genius will be manning their outdoor bar for the day as well.
