The thoughts of homeland, are crowding my mind…
“Home to Donegal”, the first track on Screaming Orphans’ latest release Paper Daisies (out on August 4th), talks of familiar places back home in Ireland for the quartet of sisters. It’s a fitting intro to this album of folk and Irish-inspired tunes, because fans have been anxiously awaiting a musical journey to the Emerald Isle with Joan, Angela, Gràinne and Marie Thérèse Diver.
With over a dozen albums to their name, listeners will have no shortage of songs to dance to or relax with a cup of tea and a book (“Shanagolden” on Paper Daisies is a beautiful end to a chaotic day). The band alternates between traditional and pop music, so this is the first time since 2020’s Sunshine and Moss that we’re getting songs that channel their Celtic roots.
“Darlin Girl From Clare”, “This Is The Life” (it’s just so damn catchy), and “I Fall Apart” show off how easily Screaming Orphans can switch between genres, blend them together, and how each one of their voices and instruments stand out. Add these to a playlist for someone who has never heard of the band before but absolutely needs to.
“Will Ye Go Lassie Go” is third track on Paper Daisies and if you weren’t already hooked, now you are. It’s a gorgeous reminder of where the band came from and how lucky we are to know them. Thank you for another outstanding album. I’ll be listening to “Hard to Say Goodbye” frequently until I see you all again…
Preorder the CD now and you’ll receive the digital download on release day. To see the band live, check out the upcoming tour dates on their website.
