On behalf of Hawthornes Restaurant Group, and owners Chris Fetfatzes and Heather Annechiarico, we are saddened to share the news that Sonny’s Cocktail Joint, Wine Dive and Rabbit are now closed temporarily due to an apartment fire that damaged part of the building above Sonny’s and that impacted the building above Wine Dive and Rabbit.
All three establishments are now closed for operations – including Rabbit that was set to formally open this coming weekend. There is no immediate timeline on when all three concepts will reopen and no timeline for the order of the three openings.
For all of the Philly wine lovers, the bottle shop at Hawthornes and Pivot Coffee (738 S. 11th Street) is open and they plan to bring in additional selections and ramp up inventory over there to meet demand. QuickSip is also fully operational for wine, beer and bubbly delivery to customer’s front doors through the phone app.
Fetfatzes said, “It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that all three of our concepts Sonny’s Cocktail Joint, Wine Dive and Rabbit are now temporarily closed due to a fire in one of the apartments in one of the buildings above Sonny’s. We do not have a timeline on when we shall reopen, but it is our hope to be back pouring red, white and our signature cocktails by the end of summer or early fall. We want to thank everyone for the amazing welcome for all three new concepts and we are so very grateful to everyone. We will return stronger than ever.”
In the meantime, Hawthornes Restaurant Group will refocus efforts and draw the creative energy of the team to Hawthornes and also Tio Flores – where a new spring/summer brunch is in the works and the colorful and unique outdoor dining scene will return for nice weather.
The husband-wife duo are also moving into the final phases to prepare Grace and Proper to open later this summer or early fall. Look for previews and news on that in the coming months.
Additionally, Hawthorne’s Beer, Booze and Bubbly Block Party is still on and happening on Saturday, May 14, 2022 – and the Tio Flores Cinco de Mayo BBQ Block Party is still on for Thursday, May 5th, Cinco de Mayo.
Fetfatzes added, “We are down for a bit at these properties but not out. We will pick ourselves up and redirect our creative energy to our other properties during this time of transition. We are still more excited than ever about special events coming back and bringing back our beloved Hawthornes Block Party on Saturday, May 14th. We are also looking forward to the first ever Tio Flores Cinco de Mayo BBQ Block party on Thursday, May 5th. In the meantime, thank you again Philly, and we will see you at Hawthornes and Tio Flores – and we will look for you around our beloved part of South Street!”
